Sredets     The village of  Sredets is located in southern Bulgaria only 4 km from the town of Opan. Opan is a village and a municipality which includes 13 settlements with 3026 residents. It is part of Stara Zagora Province.    The municipality of Opan is located in the Upper Thracian Plain, south of the city of Stara Zagora. It includes 13 villages. The municipality has a well-developed road and communications infrastructure and is representative of a rural economy with a particularly well developed agricultural sector.    Agriculture and animal breeding, traditional occupation for the population of the municipality, are prevalent also today.    The major crops for the municipality of Opan are wheat, barley, sunflower, corn and cotton, as well as those typical for Bulgaria, peppers and tomatoes. Agricultural irrigation is widely practiced.    Well-developed in the past by the state, today animal breeding is practiced mostly by small private farmers. There is a large privately-owned pig production farm in the village of Pastren.    The administrative center of the municipality, the village of Opan, was founded in the 16th century, on a busy trade road, connecting the northern and middle part of Bulgaria with Konstantinople.
