The village of Glavan is located in southern Bulgaria in Galabovo Municipality part of Stara Zagora Province. The village of is situated in the northern hills of Sakar Mountain 25 km from the town of Topolovgrad, 35 km from the town of Galabovo and 77 km from the town of Stara Zagora. It is situated in the foot of the northwestern sloops of Sakar Mountain. Inportant roads passes near-by the village. Glavan has a long and interesting history. Near the village was the crossroad of the ancient roads Via Pontika and Via Malitares which was guarded by two fortresses. Ruins of a Thracian town called Glasin subsequently Glavin. During the Turkish Bondage the name of Glavan was Yamuklari. The legend says that during the Turkish Bondage one of the near-by villages was looted by Kurdjalii and the Ottomans tax-collectors decided to gather taxes by the nearest village where the cocks were singing, fortunately someone told the villagers of Yamuklari(Glavan) to hide their cocks and the village was saved, the tax was payed by other village. In present days the population is entirely Orthodox, the only church in the village is Sveti Dimitar built in the beginning of the 19th century. There is a large monument in the park of the centre of the village. The village of Glavan is a quiet and beautiful place, the hills reveal a magnificent view and gives the opportunity to enjoy the gorgeous mountainous nature. The village is well supplied and provides all amenities needed for a normal living.
